Batticaloa town - The Day of Horror in the East

On 6th October 1987, LTTE terrorists carried out 4 civilian massacres killing 110 civilians and wounding many others in one freak shooting, Two village massacre and one attack at a passenger train

The bloodbath commenced with a group of LTTE terrorists indiscriminately opened small arms fire at the civilians in the crowded Batticaloa town. 18 civilians including women and children were killed 6 others sustained serious gunshot injuries

Tharavi Massacre

On 6th October 1987, over 100 LTTE terrorists armed with swords, machetes and small arms stormed Tharavi Sinhalese village and butchered 25 civilians. Most of the victims were women and children, including infants and pregnant mothers.

Sagarapura Massacre

On 6th October 1987, some 100 LTTE cadres armed with small arms and sharp weapons raided Sagarapura Sinhalese village and butchered 27 civilians.

The terrorists carried out a house-to-house massacre, clubbing the children to death while their parents watching, and then chopping the adults to death using sharp weapons. They looted the belongings of their victims and set fire on to 57 houses burning their wounded victims alive. 6 villagers survived the cowardly attack with serious cut wounds

Ganthalawa Massacre

On 10th October 1987, LTTE terrorists armed with swords, machetes and small arms attacked Gantalawa hamlet in Kantalai and butchered 9 civilians and wounded 3 others

Ella Kantalai Massacre

On 15th October 1987, LTTE terrorists armed with swords, machetes and small arms attacked Ella Kantalai Sinhalese village and butchered 14 civilians including women and children

Devalagodalla Massacre

On 15th December 1987, LTTE terrorists armed with small arms and sharp weapons attacked Devalagodalla ancient Sinhalese village in Kantalai and butchered 7 civilians
